I'm putting the finishing touches on our guest room and needed a little more decor. I had purchased 25 feet of rope several months ago to hang our front porch swing from. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the swing needed to be replaced all together, so I had a lot of spare rope! As a wedding and event planner, I also have more vases than I'd like to admit. What to do? Combine the two and create a nautical rope vase.
Supplies:
rope {about 50 cents a foot}
vase {this one was originally $2}
glue gun
glue sticks
heavy clip
Beginning at the base of the vase, add hot glue to the inside of the rope. Working your way around tightly, every now and then add a dap to the top of the rope.
Once you reach the top of the vase, using a heavy clip, let the rope sit for a few minutes so that it is well secured.
Then cut your rope. You'll see mine is not perfect, but I cut each "piece" individually so that it lays flatter from the top. From the front and top of the vase, you don't even know!
Since I'm just getting by, one nap time at a time, a love a quick project!
Wouldn't these make gorgeous nautical wedding centerpieces?
Time: 5 minutes
Cost: $4

i love it, i have been wanting to try this for a while but i havent found any rope yet thanks for sharing xxxx
This is amazing! Thanks for the tutorial. <3
Your vase is so pretty, thanks for the tutorial and your photographs here are lovely - such a beautiful blog! I have this linked to my nautical post too today, for inspiration!
Just saw your vase on "Inspire me Heather" and thought I'd give it a closer look! It's gorgeous - and pretty easy, too. I was just wondering how you can wash the vase - any experience so far?

Thanks Cocoalores! I generally keep flowers for just a week or so and just rinse and wipe with a paper towel/vinegar. Because of the rope, water stains won't show, making it my favorite kind of vase!
WOW, I cannot wait to make these!!! i'm a sucker for all things nautical :)
Great looking tutorial! I shared you link at http://creativityunmasked.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/six-for-saturday-or-sunday.html and will have to try it for myself once our weather warms up here in Australia. :)
Can you recommend a size of the rope? I thought yours looked like 3/8 to 1/2. Also, is it hemp (manila)? How tall are the vases you used? Sorry for all the specific questions? I am looking to make centerpieces for a nautical rehearsal dinner. These are perfect!
Kelly, I'd love to see photos after the rehearsal! They'd look beautiful on striped table cloths or runners. The rope is at least a half inch - it was the thickest of 3 that Lowe's offered and about 50 cents a foot. The vases were originally $2 from Michael's. Probably 3.5 x 3.5", but you can use any cylinder vase!
This looks absolutely gorgeous! I've been looking for a statement vase all over the web. Never in my wildest dreams have I imagined that I can make one! Thanks!
Thanks Sammy! It was so quick and easy!
