Kitchen Remodel

It's been busy in the Blanner house the past few weeks - planning beautiful weddings, enjoying Fall fun with the girls, and completing the kitchen remodel we started last year.  Prior to moving into our home, we replaced the white carpet in the kitchen {yes, you read correctly} with hand carved hardwoods, painted the exterior of the cabinetry, replaced the hardware, added stainless to the dishwasher, removed the blue stain glass above the stovetop, and replaced the light fixtures.

With the exception of paint and floors {I'm not sure how to divide the cost among the rest of the house}, we have only invested $305 to date.  I have been anxious to eliminate the blue striped corian countertops, sink and backsplash.  Ready for the before?

So last year, I started pinning, and saving.  I knew exactly what I wanted, I have just been waiting to have the budget and patience to have my kitchen inoperable for a few days.  Clean and simple - white subway tile backsplash paired with carrara marble countertops {photo}.

Everyone has tried to talk me out of the marble countertops, but I just can't stray from them!  They are classic, timeless, and a baker's dream! {below photo from BHG}  I have compromised from my original hope of a farmhouse sink, to keep the original cabinetry in tact.  I have selected a beautiful, basic white sink with a faucet that compensates for it!

I'm also looking forward to adding additional functionality without adding a lot to my remodel costs.  I love my secret trash chute that eliminates the need for us to take out the kitchen trash and have an invasive can in our kitchen - it goes directly to the large trash can in the garage.  With a little modification for the subway tile, that feature will definitely stay!

Once the interior of the cabinets have been painted, I plan to utilize this idea from Martha Stewart for my skillets and bakeware.

I have a space to the side of my sink that will be perfect to incorporate this towel rack idea.  It provides and area for them to dry that's convenient when you're doing dishes!

I'm hoping to complete the remodel for just $1,750, storage and all {excluding appliances...debating if I should do now, or wait!}.  Do you have any storage ideas to recommend?

We're just embarking on a kitchen remodel. The painters are removing the wallpaper as we speak. I like the same look as you: white cabinets, glass fronts...very classic. The thing I'm most looking forward to is a reworked island with pull-out shelves for pots and pans. Our currently has no functionality at all. Good luck! Looking forward to your before and after pics.

Lucky you! I desperately wanted an island, it just wasn't feasible with the layout. I can't wait to see yours!

I have seen pics of your kitchen many times now, and I JUST noticed those little windows under the cabinets- I've never seen a kitchen like that, too cute! So are you including your new counter tops in that budget? How exciting!

Thanks Erin! I love the added light and charm they provide. I am including countertops, tile, paint {interior of cabinets}, sink and faucet in the phase 2 budget of $1,750. It's tight, but you know I'll be sharing my tips!

Wow it's hard to imagine that is the same kitchen! The white cabinets make it seem bigger and definitely brighter. Great job!

Thank you! I am anxious to complete it!

I only have a few storage ideas but I suggest you should browse the internet for cabinet storage compartment. It can really help you save space and organize things very well. The kitchen design in Perth that I saw in a magazine is really cool and I cannot forget the design because it is one of my dream kitchen design.

It is great to have a kitchen as elegant and refreshing-looking as yours. I want to have this kind of kitchen if I were to renovate my home. In my opinion, it still needs a little improvement. I wish to retain my alder cabinets, but sell all the other stuff. Buying some modern-looking appliances can further enhance my dream kitchen. Thanks for the inspiration!

I want to have self storage Perth soon for my kitchen. I am planning to renovate it for the reason that I've been using old kitchen cabinets and countertops for a long time. These pictures inspire me to do well with the renovation that I am planning.

This is amazing. I'm picturing the whole house now. I can see kids bedding sets with pink motif for girls and a mixture of green and blue for boys.

Wow! You are really good at mazimizing the space of your kitchen, I love it! How I wish I could also do the same. I bought several daniels furniture to manage all my frying pans and kitchen tools, I'm aiming for a more organized kitchen.

I know a company that sells overstock office furniture and if given the chance I would like to purchase from them cause some of the furniture looks like that ones that you posted and I like your designs so I would be making your design a copy of mine.

That’s what I’m looking for!, a “classy and timeless” touch of a kitchen. This gave me some design ideas for my apartment in salcedo village!

Julie Blanner said...

@Louise I can't wait to finish my kitchen. I've found lots of new inspiration in St. Helena, CA as well that I can't wait to integrate!
